Aquaponicpoultry
The Aquaponicpoultry system was discovered by Robert Mwakio who assimilated the poultry rearing system into aquaponic culture during his tenure as a Projects Manager in Amsha Africa Foundation. The aquaponic and poultry system that will be used for this project will use locally available materials, be simple to build, and will be easy to implement. This is to be cost effective and minimize budget cost. This system will also be low maintenance and sustainable for the average Sub Saharan Africa rural setting.
The design will largely depend on the intention of the system. For small scale subsistence and farming the system can be constructed in a 30 feet by 90 feet square garden.
Commercial systems can be constructed in a larger area depending on the funds available.
For starters the system will be required to be housed in a green house. There are very many cheap designs for green house. The cheapest greenhouse is the polythene green house which using locally available materials can be constructed communally. There are several sites that can assist in guidelines in green house construction, such as http://doorgarden.com/10/50-dollar-hoop-house-green-house which gives a step to step process of establishing a 50$ green house.

Main system should contain 3 layers to accommodate the chicken rearing space, the containers containing the vegetables and the fish tank as the diagrammatic description below.

Basic design of the system
The Fish tank is filled with water and connected with pipes to a pump. The vegetable tank likewise is filled with porous gravel or rocks that will act as a filtration system.

The water will circulate from the fish tank to the vegetable bed continuously to ensure flow of oxygen to the tank and filtration of the waste from the fish tank to be deposited to the vegetable bed.
Furthermore since the structure comprises a greenhouse .

How does it work?

The system is simple. Once the structures are all set up, the chicken – above 4 weeks, fingerlings about a week old and seedling are all introduced. The fish tank is filled with water and the fingerlings are introduced. The water pump is to allow the flow of water from the fish tank through the pipes to the vegetable container which has porous gravel to allow filtration. This process is continuous to allow the water to be oxygenated.
All is needed is to feed the chicken and ensure that the water is regularly changed every 10 days.

Materials Needed

The materials are basics:.
The whole chicken shelter should be meshed to allow free circulation of air to the chicken and sunlight. Chickens do not do well in dimly lit places.
The mesh should be specific to allow the dropping to fall into the pond not the eggs.
For laying chicken, it is important to construct a laying den where the chicken can lay their eggs without losing the eggs by breakages.
The feeding and watering troughs should be located at the far ends of the system.

The vegetable can be planted on basic containers or troughs. They should be suspended above the ground.
